Young Hopes Africa-Capt. Hafner’s War weary Children INGO was founded 2008 by Capt. Miro Hafner who was at that time Master of the m/v Slovenija, berthed in Freetown port. The need for NGO aroused after a visit of local activist to the vessel while laying alongside. Activist was collecting donations for the children but Capt. Hafner was not prepared to donate anything until verified where donations would be going. He was taken to nearby Waterloo Refugee Camp, where he really met with Rev. Marcus Jones who at the time took care of several orphans, organized in groups but not belonging to any organized charity or relieve group. It was quickly obvious that a form of organized and registered help was needed and after looking at innocent faces of children it was not hard to make a decision then and there. After tireless work of Capt. Hafner, Rev. Jones and local volonteers, NGO YOUNG HOPES AFRICA was registered , we must say with the blessing and great understanding of Sierra Leone government and it’s ministries
That was still the time without internet and donations on which organization was based were kind of small and slow, but the organization did survive. By the years it became evident that we have to reorganize and adapt to the new developments. This site has been made with a desire to attract more interests in our work and thus more donations which will enable us to bring our plans and visions to reality transparently and not the last: asure better life to orphan children which is actually why we exist at all.
